Price Check — what staples cost across Atlantic Canada

Every Friday we price one everyday staple in Halifax, on the record. Readers across the four provinces report theirs. Week by week, this page becomes the price history nobody else keeps.

First check: Friday, October 23, 2026

How a check works

The anchor is verified. Each Friday's Halifax price is read from the retailer's own online listing that day — the store, the product and the check date are printed with it.

Listings move. An online listing price can vary by store, pickup or delivery — the anchor is the listing we checked, on the day we checked it, and it's labelled that way.

Reader prices stay reader prices. Prices reported in the Friday post's comments are published labelled "reader-reported," with the town and store as given. A reader figure is never promoted to an anchor.
